It has been effective in the home environment as well…Music is very soothing for our son. He loves to sing and recently he’s been using beats and starting to get to know you don’t have to do everything fast and loud. Manners, waiting, listening, and self-awareness — he has been starting to master them all. Thank you Ms. Ericha you’re an awesome Music Therapist!"

What is music therapy?
According to the American Music Therapy Association, music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program. Music therapy is an evidence-based practice that has two well known publications, Journal of Music Therapy and Music Therapy Perspectives. What does the typical treatment process look like?
After the initial consultation, the individual undergoes an evaluation where they explore various instruments and music styles to identify motivators. A treatment plan is then developed and implemented. Progress is reviewed every 90 days, with families receiving updates. Upon achieving all goals and objectives, a re-evaluation determines ongoing needs and the continuation of music therapy.
Am I required to have any instruments at my home for a session?
No instruments are required at home unless participating in adaptive music lessons. The therapist will introduce various instruments to determine the best fit based on skill level and environment. Once selected, family or individual will receive guidance on affordable options. Having the instrument at home is encouraged to support skill carryover and independent practice between sessions.
What are home strategies?
Home strategies are family-centered activities designed to reinforce and practice skills developed during music therapy within familiar environments. These strategies support skill retention, engagement, and continuity of therapeutic progress outside of sessions.
I can’t sing or play an instrument. How can I help my child or loved one transfer newly learned skills to other environments?
The music therapist will create family friendly activities for you to transfer newly learned skills to other environments. No music skills required.
Can other family members join in on the music therapy session?
Family members are welcome to observe or participate in music therapy sessions, provided their involvement supports the therapeutic process. Our goal is to foster a collaborative environment while ensuring the session remains focused on the client’s needs and objectives.
Are music therapists allowed to work with other members of the individual’s treatment team?
